Haworth, a Michigan-based manufacturer of high-end office interiors with more than 7,000 employees in 126 countries, maintains a goal of filling at least 70 percent of its open positions from within.

In 2010, Ann Harten, vice president of global human resources, and her team took a major step toward helping the company meet that goal. They designed and implemented the Haworth Leadership Institute (HLI), which included development programs for managers and leaders at all levels of the organization
